SMART Planning Objective 2013 - 2014

Division/Planning unit: Academic Affairs
Department/Program: Library
Responsible Person: Jenna Miller

SMART Objective Name: ILLO in LIS Classes

Focus: Continuous Improvement

Overview: Library faculty use a pretest/posttest assessment strategy. In this process, specific course and/or lesson objectives are assessed. The librarians agreed that a new assessment strategy should be added to determine if students are achieving the overall learning outcome of the courses: Information Literacy.

The librarians agreed in 2013 that for each LIS class, the course project would be the best tool to assess attainment of this learning outcome. For this assessment, the librarians agreed to map project questions to the information literacy competencies described by the college. By scoring 80% or higher on the project questions that map to the competencies, a student will demonstrate attainment of the information literacy learning outcome.

This assessment strategy will be piloted during the Summer 2013 term and go into effect in Fall of 2013.
