The Geography Faculty at Santa Fe College would like to wish everyone a happy Geography Awareness Week (November 13 to 16, 2012)!
To celebrate the fifth annual Geography Awareness Week at Santa Fe College, there will be a display of geography activities in the Library, including details on the Study Abroad opportunities available through Santa Fe. Look for a daily Geography Quiz in the Library lobby and online. The person with the best score on the quiz will win an atlas. Please drop your completed answers in the box in the library lobby.
We will celebrate Geographic Information Science (GIS) Day on Wednesday, in conjunction with the University of Florida. We'll have GIS informational presentations, GIS information and workshops, a poster session and cake. Carol McAuliffe, Map Librarian at the University of Florida, invites all Santa Fe students to participate. For more information: www.uflib.ufl.edu/gisday.
Our faculty in Geography at Santa Fe College includes some wonderful teachers: Neal Devine, Ph. D., Rutgers University; Kim Feigenbaum, MA, University of Florida; Heidi Lannon, Ph. D., University of Florida; Jean Vincent, MA, University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Geography Awareness Week was first held in 1987 when President Ronald Reagan signed legislation that established the third week in November as Geography Awareness Week. The purpose of Geography Awareness Week is to promote geographic education in schools and with the public. Geography Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Geographic Society and other geographic organizations at the national, state, and local level.
