Faculty requests for DVDs, VHS and CDs

The Classroom Collection consists of items which are exclusively for the use of faculty in their courses. These VHS, DVDs and CDs may be searched in the online catalog from your office or home and may be requested by using the link to the online form. Requested items will be pulled and held at the circulation desk for pick up by faculty. Faculty may send their staff or student assistants to retrieve materials as long as the designee brings the faculty member's SF ID card so the items may be checked out.

Items may be searched using the online catalog:

  1. Choose Advanced Search.
  2. Under Format, choose Video (DVD).
  3. Type your search term(s) in the box(es) provided.
  4. Click Start.

Alternately, use the Quick Media Search box:

Faculty and staff may check out items to preview overnight or over the weekend. Items may be checked out for two weeks for classroom use.

To ensure these items are available for faculty, student use of the Classroom Collection is restricted to "in house" viewing only (students may check out media for 3 hours and only view them in the library).

Please make your requests for Classroom Collection items at least 2 days prior to your class when using the online form. This will allow for scheduling. Otherwise you may check out the media at the circulation desk on a first come first served basis.

We will make every effort to fill requests. However, materials currently unavailable in our catalog may not be available at a later time. In the event two or more faculty members request the same material, priority will be given to the earliest request.

Please be aware:

DVD and VHS films checked out of the library are for not for public viewing.

Fair use of DVDs and VHS films applies only in the case of direct classroom instruction—the film may be viewed only in the classroom, shown only to the registered students in the class, and must be a systematic part of the class, mentioned in the syllabus. It is a violation of copyright for a faculty member to open the film viewing to anyone not enrolled in the class.

If faculty or school organizations plan to show a movie outside the regular classroom environment, they must observe copyright and purchase public viewing rights.

If you have any questions you may call the circulation desk at 352-395-5412. If you have any questions about searching the collection, please call the reference desk at 352-395-5409.
