Search for books by keyword, instructor name or course number.

Search Tips

  • If you only know the first part of the course number, for instance AMH for American history, just put in the first three letters followed by an asterisk. For example amh*.
  • If you know that whole course number, do not use a space between the letters and numbers, i.e. ENC1101 not ENC 1101.

Instructions for Students

  • Reserve materials are located at the circulation desk on the first floor of the library.
  • Most reserve items check out for in-house use only.
  • You must have a SF ID Card to check out reserve items.
  • Not all class materials are placed on reserve. Placing materials on reserve is solely at the discretion of the department or your instructor. If you would like to have material for your class placed on reserve, please speak with your instructor.

To place an item on reserve:

  • Read Copyright Compliance information
  • Fill in, print and sign Reserve Request Form
  • Deliver completed Reserve Request form and reserve material to Library Circulation (First floor, Building Y).

The types of materials that can be placed on reserve include:

  • Textbooks
  • Class notes
  • Copies of old tests
  • Article reprints
  • Media
  • Books

Under copyright law, the types of materials that may NOT be placed on reserve include:

  • Standardized tests
  • Course packs
  • Required workbooks
  • Any item specifically prohibited by copyright.

Please remember:

  • To allow approximately one week for processing reserve request materials.
  • Materials (other than photocopies) may be placed on reserve for a maximum of 2 years; photocopies (subject to fair use copyright regulation) may be placed on reserve for one semester only; a new Reserve Request Form must be completed for each semester photocopies are in use.
  • Make sure that the title listed on the Reserve Request Form is consistent with the title mentioned in class and on the syllabus.
  • At the conclusion of the reserve period (listed on the form), material will be returned to the instructor or department. Material released from reserve is no longer the responsibility of the library.
  • In compliance with interlibrary loan regulations, we cannot place items belonging to other libraries on reserve at SF.
